The Plank is about as honest as a wood chair gets: square legs, a deep seat frame, and one solid back board set at a comfortable angle. With no spindles or curves to loosen, it is a natural choice for operators who want a chair that will stay tight for a long time and look as good scuffed as new.

Construction. Solid hardwood frame, mortise-and-tenon joined, with the back board fixed between continuous rear posts. Deep seat rails carry glued-and-screwed corner blocks. The padded seat is upholstered over a plywood pan that unscrews from below for fast recovering.

Where it works. Steakhouses, grill restaurants, modern American and all-day dining rooms. It pairs naturally with timber-faced booths and heavy tables.

Options. Natural oak, smoked, walnut or ebonized stain; seat in leather, vinyl, fabric or COM. Seat height and back angle can be adjusted on the drawing.

Why it lasts. With a flat back board and square legs, there are few joints that take twisting loads, and every one of them is glued and reinforced. Scuffs on the square edges can be touched up with a matching stain pen.
